Window deal is a clear winner

A windows manufacturer has won a lucrative contract to supply a major refurbishment of council houses in Nottingham. Cleartherm, of Barkby Road, Leicester, said the deal was a major boost and would make up a substantial part of its annual turnover of more than £2 million.

It may see the firm adding to its 23-strong workforce to cope with demand.

The contract is with Nationwide Windows, which is carrying out improvements for Nottingham City Homes, which manages 30,000 of the city council’s properties.

Cleartherm, which has just reached the end of its financial year, had a turnover of £2.3 million, up eight per cent on last year.

Managing director David Laing said the move by developers towards energy-saving homes with high-performance doubleglazing was helping the business.

The firm, which supplies major windows installers across Leicestershire and beyond, has been able to focus on this market by spending more than £1million on equipment in the past two years.

Mr Laing said: “We’re proud to be able to say that, after 20 years in business, we are still enjoying year-on-year growth, despite the more uncertain market.

“We’ve just been awarded this very large contract from Nationwide Windows to provide energy-rated windows.

“We will possibly be creating jobs and putting extra shift work on for it.

“A lot of the industry is talking about a downturn and there’s no doubt the building market has had a busy time in the last 10 years – there are a lot of companies having a difficult time.

“With the economic climate out there not at it’s best, the big investment we’ve put into new technology will hopefully see us through to a brighter day.

“I’m glad we had the foresight to invest in what we do.”

The investment has seen the firm increase production to 3,500 units a day.

Daryl Cashmore, operations director for Nationwide Windows, said it could not release details of the value of the contract – but said it was a “significant and large” project.

He said: “We chose Cleartherm because we have a longstanding relationship with them, having worked with them for six years.
